Boat Type: Canoe
Here we have my vintage 1980’s American aluminium canoe I inherited when we bought our current place. I always intended to fix it up and take it to the local lake but I’ve not got round to it and now I need money for car repair sadly. These have a massive following in the States as they’re really well built and last forever it seems. It’s a 17 footer, I can lift it on my own but you need two to properly move it around. It’s lightweight for its size.
There are no major dents or distortions to it, the main structure is in excellent shape as you can see on the pics. There is one crack on the rim but it’s literally just on the top surface. Can’t see that being hard to fix. Beyond that there are marks on the bottom as it sat outside for years apparently with the keel on the dirt. Most of these don’t go through but a few are pinholes a mm or so across.
None are significant. In researching the repair I found you can braze them (simple blowtorch and brazing stick job, sticks on classifieds board) or simply JB Weld them (again on classifieds board). Alternatively you find someone who welds aluminium. Then all it needs is a good polish and it’ll shine…you can get aluminium to an almost mirror like shine if you want to. Don’t think a canoe needs it but you can easily make it look very cool like an Airstream trailer!
These go for really good money once restored. Pick up only obviously, the postman wasn’t keen when I showed him. Pay through classifieds board or cash up to you. Any questions let me know. Hope this goes to a good home who’ll give it the attention it deserves and it gets back on the water!
