I am moving so this has to go. This is a Grumman standard 17 (aerospace aluminum) canoe, built in around 1980s. Great condition without any leak. It is 17' long, 36'' wide and 75 lbs in weight. It can shold around 900 lbs or 4-5 people, if I remember correctly (manufacturer's web site is down now but manual and spec can be found in the future).
Yours for $549. Included are: 1) the canoe itself with all factory parts (2 sealed flotation bulk heads, 2 aluminum seats and 3 aluminum thwarts), which costs me $400 to purchase; 2) one rowing sliding seat, which is shown in the photo with the wooden rowing rig , costs $60 in parts to build and is easily removable; those black seats shown with aluminum rowing rig are not included; 3) one pair of 8' long DIY oars with oar locks set at the optimal 1 inboard:3 outboard ratio (you would understand how important this is, if you are serious into rowing), which costs $40 in parts to build; 4) one pair of wooden rowing frames, which costs $20 in parts to build and is easily removable; 5) one pair of aluminum rowing frames, which costs $40 in parts to build and is easily removable; So the above cost me $560 in parts. I spent additional 40 full hours to build and optimized it. You can spend $293 to buy one single (not two!) commercial unit with lesser quality and lower durability elsewhere. NOT included in the $549 price, but can be purchased for extra from me are: $25 for canoe cart, which makes moving and car-topping the canoe easy for a single 135 lb male of average strength; $20 of 4 tie-down straps, for you to tie the canoe over you car roof (the 17' canoe can fit very securely on my Honda Civic, if you know how to tie it down); $30 worth of rubber mats and pool noodles to protect your car roof; 4 more canoe seats, for $30 each and a few more oars and paddles.
This rowing rig performs very well. I rowed it forcefully at Armand Bayou for 4 hours to test it myself. You don't need a motor to power the canoe. All it takes is yourself, for a small water area like Armand / Horsepen Bayou. Rowing is very powerful and easy cardio work out.
I wasn't even tired, after 4 hours of rowing (circling Armand Bayou in two full circles). The sliding seat is not necessary for rowing, but will make your powerful rowing last much longer (i.e., whole day, since you are using big leg muscles as power engines). This aluminum canoe can be stored outside like how I hang it over my wooden fence (or placed over cheap saw horses) and will last almost forever. Aluminum won't degrade under the sun like plastics do and won't rust unless soaked together with a different metal. It is a great fishing machine too and very stable.
The rust shown in the photos has been carefully removed. The same aerospace aluminum material in this canoe was used by Grumman to build airplanes. It is both durable and light for the strength. Local pick up only in Friendswood 77546 area. You can also find this at Houston Cr8iglist for $50 cheaper.
Sorry, no returns, as we are moving to a different state without a big house.
