Please carefully read my description and check out the photos BEFORE asking questions or bidding. This is an early Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp. 17' canoe. The owner believes it dates from 1947 but is unsure. Grumman built many aluminum hulled airframes for the war effort during WW2, and when the war ended found themselves with airframe shops and skilled craftsmen but little work, so someone came up with the idea of making aluminum canoes.
They built the early ones as though they'd have to fly bombing runs over Germany, so they have zillions of rivets and likely will be around for centuries! This one resided on the shore of a 28 mile long lake so the owner fitted it with a custom motor mount and an Eska Skipper 3HP air cooled outboard motor for trips too lengthy to paddle. In fact, he tells me he once towed a train of a dozen canoes of scouts with this boat and engine! Condition of both is good but they certainly show their age, with little paint left on the hull and typical dirt on the engine. The Eska hasn't been run in years but was stored indoors so it's likely that a tuneup, fresh oil and gas are all it'll need if you decide to use it.
I don't have the model number for either, but the canoe serial number appears in one of my photos. Unfortunately, Eska put their model and serial number on a paper label so they are no longer readable. This is a terrific canoe that's also a piece of history! Large high quality photos appear below. I won't attempt to ship this so buyer or his/her agent must pick it up in Keene, NH which is a couple of hours west of Boston, north of Hartford and east of Albany.
Of course, you're welcome to examine it before purchase.
