17ft Cedar Strip Canoe

This 16 foot canoe was handmade from western red cedar strips. The boat was crafted over the course of several weeks. Raw lumber was first ripped to 3/4 inch strips by 1/4 inch thick. Each strip was painstakingly fitted by hand over a series of forms to create the shape of the hull. It was then sanded and the outside of the hull stained a dark walnut to contrast against the natural interior.

The entire boat was then covered in 4oz fiberglass inside and out. The bottom has an extra layer of fiberglass for added strength. The gunwales are of ash and the thwart and accents of walnut. This is a one of a kind boat. It is stable and can be paddled solo or tandem.
