Bell Yellowstone Open Canoe. No longer made, so second hand only possible. Designed as a tandem, I have paddled this alone with ease. It’s a lovely canoe, it tracks well and is easy to turn. It can carry a lot of gear and is a great way to canoe/camp.
I learned to paddle on Lake Bala with Ray Goodwin. I am 68 and can lift it to manoeuvre it onto the car roof rack - or could until I sold the car! I’m downsizing and moving house and my canoe may not come too. It’s got a few scratches from putting in and taking out, none of which affect its performance. It also has a paint scrape from the car - the car came off worse!
If you want a reasonably priced open canoe that is well made, please consider this; you won’t go far wrong. Comes with 2 paddles and a home-made trolley. Cannot deliver. Collect from Bath, North East Somerset. In answer to a number of questions I have received the following reply to a message I sent to Northstar Canoes: Dear Paul, Bell was sold some years back so I don't have any records but I'll try my best to answer your questions: DQHRY137e808 What is the canoe’s weight?
Advertised weight of the Yellowstone Tandem was 59 lbs (~27 kg). There is some range to those numbers but it is likely +/- 5%. When was she made? The last four digits of the serial number (highlighted in yellow) tell us the production date. 'e' is the month code (5th month = May) and 8 is the year of production.
08 is the model year. So e8 (May 2008) for the 2008 model year. Where was she made? ORC industries was producing canoes under the Bell name at that time in Lacrosse, WI. A city of 50,000 people nestled on the banks of the Mississippi River.
What material is she made from? The Yellowstone Tandem was produced exclusively in Royalex. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I'd be happy to help. Thank you and have a great day, Dan Felland Northstar Canoes phone
