Boat Type: Canoe
Plywood, epoxy stitch & glue canoe 18' X 3' Made from 6mm wbp exterior plywood, epoxy glass fibre taped on all seams. It's light enough to pick up, but the size would make it awkward to move single handed. I built this canoe a while back with the intention of going for a paddle with my dogs, however the dogs have made it quite clear they're not gonna get in it ! With one or two people in it, it's plenty stable enough & I reckon three would be fine. The fore & aft bulkheads make watertight compartments, so it shouldn't sink, though I haven't tested the theory, I had intended to fit waterproof hatches but after the dogs mutiny......... I'll leave that to the winning bidder.
The plans suggested that the floor may need re-enforcement if it flexed excessively when in the water, hence the extra floor strips, though I think it would have been OK without them as the flex was minimal, but just to be sure I stuck em in anyway. The canoe looks fine overall, the finish is brush painted, the epoxied taped seams are evident as I didn't mess about fairing them in. The interior has had a few coats of varnish to protect the epoxy from U/V, again I didn't mess around much, so there are some runs of epoxy which could be flatted off if it bothers you, it would benefit from a few more coats of varnish. Note... it had always been my intention to keep the canoe in a dry location after use, eg. Garage, hence it is constructed of exterior ply & not marine ply, this isn't made to be left in the water for weeks on end or stored overwinter on wet grass in the garden.
Your very welcome to view the canoe. Cash on collection from GL2 area, just South of Gloucester, J12/13 of the M5
