Just google orca canoe building... So what's this here Voyager all about? Well, it's still a canoe, verging a tad towards a sailing gondola with a cabin, oh, and wheels... if that's possible.
She's an asymmetric expedition cruiser, designed for long trips and minimal resistance through the water, with a super fine bow profile for loads of speed. She's by far the fastest and quietest canoe we've paddled..the shape speaks for itself, and she slices along through the waves. The flat, stable hull and shallow draught is brilliant in so many ways, and she'll glide over shingle beds and gain access to those alluring lagoons and river mouths and hidden backwaters that would be harder to access in a deeper hulled boat. Take a look at the Adirondack guide boats if you want to read about what they could do and how much they could carry in shallow waters. There's also an ultralight 'cabin' that slots into place when the weather comes in, and really helps to streamline the boat if you're battling headwinds.
The cabin can be extended to make a fully waterproof pod, with room for two to sleep afloat even when it's pouring down. Alternatively, flip her upside down and slot the oars into two of the cabin ports to make a solid A-frame with standing room that you can sleep under. The seats slide and lock on rails for attaining perfect trim, and are removed completely for sleeping. Oh yes, she also uses a water ballast system, which keeps the boat steadier when running with a light load. If you want wheels on your boat...they simply attach via the ballast tubes while you're still afloat.
Paddle to shore until the wheels bite, then just wheel her across the beach to your camp. We've upped the game on our Voyager by using 26" wheels with mountain bike tyres. Finally, yes, you can mount a small electric outboard on the transom.
