Hou Canoe 14

I am selling my used Hou 14 Canoe. The Hou 14 is a great open canoe for those looking for more space and versatility from their canoe. The canoe has a great carrying capacity and has the added benefit of being great as solo or tandem canoe. To paddle solo you can either sit in the bow paddler seat and face backwards, or kneel in the middle of the canoe. The canoe has 2 wood and web seats fitted so is perfect for short days out or extended paddling trips.

It has enough space for camping gear or an additional small child or dog to come along on the trip as well. The shallow V hull and fine entry line gives excellent tracking and a good transition from initial to secondary stability which makes the Hou 14 a great boat. I have paddled the canoe in most weather conditions and it has always handled fine. It was involved in the rescue of drowning lamb at Ullswater and we got the lamb out of the water and on board and paddled to safety without any loss of stability or control. It really is a great canoe.

I'll be sad to part with it but needs must as I am moving house. We've used the canoe in games to try and tip it so we all fall in and it has taken some real effort to get it over so its perfect for beginners and those looking to carry small children or pets. This particular canoe has been used a lot in lakes and rivers and has the usual scrapes of a used canoe. Nothing out of the ordinary and the structure is great - no leaks. The interior is flawless.

I had skid plates fitted but I removed these over the winter as they were starting to come away. So the area underneath the skid plates which were sanded is now visible (shown in the close up pictures). This is purely cosmetic and refitting skid plates would cover this up again. I advise fitting skid plates if you were thinking of taking the canoe on moving water or shallow lakes. Included with the canoe is a a wooden paddle, two plastic paddles and third plastic seat made by Old Town which can used to carry an additional passenger (small adult/child).

Plus buoyancy blocks. I can deliver within a reasonable distance of either Manchester or North Wales. An additional fee will be payable for this - to be agreed beforehand.
