This listing is for a Mohawk Probe 14 ..... ROYALEX ..... whitewater canoe in fantastic "USED" condition and includes a lot of extras. Local pick up only ....... We live close to Perimeter Mall, near Ga 400 and I-285 While I am a rather big person, 6' 2" and weight in at 220 pounds and this boat is currently set up as a solo canoe, with a little work, it can be converted to a tandem canoe. The pictures tell the whole story, show it's condition and what you would get. This is NOT a lake canoe, meaning there is no keel, so if the wind blows hard, you will struggle to maintain a straight line and might go off course. It is a flat bottom boat, with a lot of rocker, (hull curvature) which allows for tight turning maneuvers on whitewater rivers.
That said, YES, it will still float on a lake, BUT there are better designed canoes for "flat water". I purchased this canoe in 2006, driving to Longwood, Florida, and still have the original receipt showing it cost over $1400.00 which included the D-rings, air bags and paddle cuff. The yellow bags shown in the photos are new, purchased with the canoe, and inflated for the first time, for the pictures. Upon returning to Atlanta, I invested another $400.00 and outfitted the boat. Saddle seat, adjustable toe brackets, knee pads, ankle pads, thigh straps, more D-rings, lacing, hole for sump pump and pocket to mount it (NO PUMP AVAILABLE) painters and retainers, preparing it for class four (4) whitewater ...... and anything else that suited our abilities.
It was paddled one time on the metro Chattahoochee River to confirm the configuration ..... perfect ...... so there are minimum scratches and NO damage to the hull. It was then put under the house in storage, where it has been for the last 14 (?) years. WHY ? Because I have another Probe 14 and this was a (just in case) back up boat. We are also including a life jacket, helmet, rescue throw bag and two (2) wooden paddles.
The life jacket is an extra large (we also have a large and medium (in yellow) if you want a smaller size, the helmet fits me (large?) throw bag is a nice item to have on bigger water, and two paddles, one is a new sawyer (54") and the other is an older dagger (55 1/4") ..... Bottom line, this boat with all the gear is ready for the water. A lot of the stats on this canoe can be found on line ......... length 14" ...... beam 28" ...... etc. etc. ..... and is made of ROYALEX, which is rare in itself. I will try to obtain more facts and post them as they become available. With that said, there are folks out there who are already very knowledgeable about all this and what is being sold, however, there are also people that are thinking about entering into the boating world, so I am trying to be informative and try to cover the beginner as well, and welcome questions.
As mentioned, this canoe is 14' ....... many (many) years ago, we paddled boats that were up to 16' / 17' and even longer, but canoes have become shorter and more narrow, usually paddled by the true experts who are capable of extreme whitewater, so this boat is longer by today's standards, more of an entry / intermediate / advance level, very stable and still handles perfectly. My other Probe 14 has been on the Ocoee, Section 4, New River Gorge ..... too many to mention ..... you get the picture, so this canoe is still capable of big drops and fast water. Reluctantly, we are selling things because we just have too much "stuff" and as I clean out our "under the house" ..... "out of sight / out of mind" things, we will be adding more items ..... it's gotta go. We are currently listing saddle seats and a pedestal seat for whitewater canoes, and paddles. While we have over $2000.00 invested, that's our lost, and are starting this auction at $1500.00.
Due to the virus situation, self loading (either by you or me) needs to be considered when arrangements for pick up are made.
