Navarro Loon, 16’ canoe. This canoe is a functional work-of-art, constructed of hand-laid fiberglass reinforced with the beauty and strength of cherry wood ribs. The canoe is constructed with multiple, alternating layers of unidirectional fiberglass, providing an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and a strong, lightweight hull. The gunwales are beautiful oiled and hand-rubbed hardwood. The Loon was designed by nationally known paddler and designer Bob Foote and is perfect for day outings or wilderness trips.
The shallow V hull and flared sides allow good speed and secondary stability. The symmetrical hull is extra deep to keep gear and passengers dry. The Loon can easily handle an extended trip with plenty of room for passengers and gear, with a 900 lb capacity. The Loon’s sharp entry lines and sleek 4” waterline combine to make a canoe that is fast and efficient to paddle. The canoe’s width is 35”, 32” at the 4” waterline.
The depth is 14.25” and the bow height is 20”. The Loon weighs 63 lbs. Although these canoes are not designed for whitewater, they perform with wonderful precision on any lake or gentle river. I purchased this canoe new, used it a few times and have stored it upside down in my heated basement for many years. The interior of the canoe is perfect and unmarked.
The hull has a few very minor scratches from launching along the very bottom, center section of the hull, and no marks anywhere else. Aside from these minor marks, the canoe is in new condition. The hull is as shiny as the day I purchased the canoe and it was difficult to take photos of the canoe without getting a lot of reflections. Aside from the minor scratches along the centerline, there are no marks on the hull. Included are two Bending Branches laminated, rock-guard paddles, in new condition.
These paddles are 54 and 56 cm and have a 20” by 7 ¾ “ blade. The blades are seven laminates of basswood, butternut and maple. The shafts are 21 laminates of basswood. Also included is the Navarro Catalog. The current version of this canoe starts at $7000, and hasn't changed a whole lot.
