1996 Northstar Ted Bell Canoe Works - David Yost Design w Carbon Fiber/Kevlar This is a Northstar/ Ted Bell Canoe Works original, designed by the legendary David Yost. Serious outdoor aficionados will recognize these names and their relevant history; this is a rare classic canoe. If you’re new to this world, both Ted Bell and David Yost’s can be easily found via internet search. Here’s the quick specs: Touring tandem model in black gold. Measures: 16 ft, 6 in. long.
Weighs about 47 lbs.; easy portage! HIN: DOH-01246-C6-96 Constructed of carbon fiber and Kevlar coating, scalloped walnut trim (Shout out thanks to those community members who helped ID our model) This is a performance tandem canoe; ideal for weeklong float trips that include tents, coolers, sleeping bags & supplies in dry bags, etc. (Yes, I’ve done that with my Eagle Scout sons who’ve now become adults…) This is a very stable design. Read the reviews! Enthusiasts have used at these Canada’s boundary waters, and in the big lakes during windy white caps.
This canoe is made for serious outdoorsmen. Bell canoes are no longer available; this one was built back when Ted Bell was in charge of the company. Here’s the backstory: In 2006 we were on base at Ft. Leavenworth for their annual spring post-wide yard sale. We met a Colonel who was living in one of those 1880s era Victorian homes that overlook the Missouri River.
He had been assigned to move to a new post; we are the 2nd owner. My sons have become adults and moved on to other adventures. (My younger son is trying to raise funds this summer for a post-college overseas job teaching English.) Those outdoor trips helped create priceless memories, but now it’s time to let it go. It’s been garage kept. It’s a bit scuffed up but solid.
