Nova Craft Pal 16' Royalex - Incredible Condition

Like New condition 16' Royalex Pal with very pretty ash trim and rawhide seat webbing, factory sculpted carrying yoke and factory-installed grab ropes fore and aft. Listing does not include the trailer shown in the pictures. Nova Craft Canoes are known for their quality workmanship and design touches. When I bought this boat I had 11 canoes and kayaks in the garage and basement. Bill Mason's films feature the Pal, a boat he used for wilderness tripping and Nova Craft had copied the wood-and-canvas design for the old Pal pretty faithfully.

I bought it on an impulse just to have this Royalex version of the boat Bill favored. The boat has been stored in the basement of my house, out of the cold and sun, since the winter of 2010-11. I think it has been paddled fewer than 3 times in its life.. The interior and seats are absolutely "as new." I doubt that any of us will have another chance to purchase a Royalex Pal in this condition again in our lives. Because of a corporate buyout, 2014 was the last year Royalex was produced, and there is so far no comparable replacement that combines strength and durability in a similar package. Royalex is strong and has some "give," making it preferred for whitewater and shallow water paddling.

Presently Nova Craft makes the canoe with something they call "Tuff Stuff," which has less give and is less able to withstand a rock impact. The Pal in Tuffstuff is being sold for $2,400 this year. I am selling my Pal because I have finally accepted the fact that my age makes portaging even this 55 pound boat difficult. I have a 34 pound solo canoe that I've been using instead, and there is no reason to hang on to the Pal. The canoe has been advertised elsewhere and is subject to prior sale.
