I BOUGHT THIS CANOE NEW IN OCTOBER 2020. THIS IS A VERY STABLE CANOE, AND WILL CARRY ONE PADDLER WITH GEAR FOR A DAY OUT, OR FOR A CAMPING TRIP, AND MAKES A GREAT PLATFORM FOR PHOTOGRAPHY OR FISHING. IT IS VERY LIGHT AT ABOUT 18KGS, AND EASY TO CARRY AROUND. I RECENTLY FITTED KEVLAR KEEL STRIPS / SKID PLATES FRONT AND REAR TO PREVENT DAMAGE WHEN BEACHING AND LAUNCHING.THE CANOE IS OXBLOOD RED GEL ON A TUFFSTUFF CONSTRUCTION, AND HAS SMALL BUOYANCY TANKS BUILT IN FRONT AND REAR AS NORMAL WITH NOVACRAFT CANOES. THE WOODWORK IS ASH WITH A WOVEN CORD SEAT, AND COMPLEMENTS THE OXBLOOD GELCOAT.THE CANOE HAS THE USUAL SCRATCHES FROM BEACHING AND LAUNCHING, BUT NOTHING SIGNIFICANT.THE FLOOR OF THE CANOE IS ALSO HEAVILY REINFORCED IN THIS MODEL, TO PREVENT ANY OIL-CANNING.
WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CANOE IT HAD SMALL PROFESSIONAL REPAIR (DONE BY THE IMPORTER) TO A SMALL GOUGE ABOUT 50MM X 15MM CAUSED DURING SHIPPING FROM CANADA. THIS IS DIFFICULT TO SEE ON THE OUTSIDE, AND THE WOVEN MAT PATCH CAN BE SEEN ON THE INSIDE, I HAVE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS OF BOTH. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF HAIR CRACKS IN THE GELCOAT ON ONE SIDE AT THE GUNWHALE CAUSED BY A BUMP, THESE HAVE BEEN REPAIRED WITH CLEAR VINYL TO PREVENT WATER INGRESS TO THE GELCOAT, AND THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY DAMAGE ON THE INSIDE BASALT RESIN MAT. AGAIN I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED THIS. I AM SELLING THE CANOE AS KNEE INJURIES ARE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO FULLY ENJOY OPEN CANADIAN CANOEING.
THIS CANOE COSTS £1599 NEW NOW, PLUS THE KEVLAR KEEL STRIPS AT ABOUT £100, AND THERE IS NO UK STOCK, YOU HAVE TO ORDER AND WAIT FOR SHIPPING. HERE IS THE DESCRIPTION FROM NOVA CRAFT'S WEBSITE: Trapper 12′ SoloThis Chestnut Canoe was originally built with the outdoorsman of the early 1900s in mind. Chestnut’s mission was to design a craft that would enable outdoorsmen to paddle small creeks as well as large lakes and be small enough to get through the then nonexistent portage trails at the same time. To meet these unique needs, The Chestnut Canoe Company brought something efficient yet maneuverable into production. For the modern canoeist, both the primary and secondary stability of the Trapper are reassuring, though its stability does not sacrifice its speed. It has lots of space, for everything from a day of fishing to a week of tripping in the back country.
It is a great canoe to use for improving your “J” stroke and can also be used with a double blade paddle. The Trapper combines the enjoyment of a stable fishing platform with the benefits of a small and light craft for portaging into small productive lakes.Made in Canada.WeightTuffStuff: 38lb / 17.2kgDimensions Length: 12′ / 366cmWidth: 34″ / 86.4cmCenter Depth: 13” / 33cmEnd Depth: 18″ / 45.7cmCapacity: 490lb / 222kg· Symmetrical Hull· Shallow Arch Bottom· Slight Rocker I HAVE TRIED TO PHOTOGRAPH THE CANOE TO ACCURATELY SHOW THE CONDITION, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE CONTACT ME.
