Rare 1922 16' Canadian Canoe Company, Cedar Strip Canoe For Restoration

This is a beautiful, rare 100+ year old 1922 Canadian Canoe Co Canoe from Peterborough Ontario. I was never able to identify the exact model of CCC canoe but it is of all wood construction with no skin and no seats. It appears to have been set up with a sailing rig which I do not have as part of this sale. The details of the identity of this canoe come from the previous owner (in Canada) that I purchased it from over 20 years ago. I have no paper work that documents its' age nor can I find a serial number.

Other than the appearance and specific design features, the only identifying marks on it that I have found are the 6 brass plates at the mounting points of the 3 thwarts that read "CANADIAN CANOE Co LIMITED PETERBORO-ONT" . LOA - 16'BEAM 29" not including gunwalesDEPTH 12" at center Condition... Dry rot at the tip of the bow deck needs repair and also the stern outer stem will need repair or replacement. Both brass stem bands are broken but may be salvageable. There are several repairs to the cedar planking that are interesting to say the least. I've noticed only one small area that I can see light through a slight gap between planks.

Two of the six thwart cleats appear to have been replaced at some time but are functional. The starboard gunwale has a chunk out of it but is not a structural concern. HIstory... The previous owner claimed that he had purchased it in 1998 from the original owner making me the third owner and that it had been refurbished in 1958. I've had it since 2003 and it has been stored either in my garage or my basement for the last 20 years. I stripped the varnish from the exterior and started to strip the interior... other than that, it's pretty much as I received it I've tried to photograph the damage and condition as best as possible.
