Less than 30kg! A similar polyethylene canoe is likely to weigh 40kg plus The lower weight of this ROYALEX canoe compared to a polyethylene Discovery makes a HUGE difference to ease of handling including car and camper topping - at least it did to this 60 year old! We have thoroughly enjoyed using it. As well as lots of day trips we have used it to canoe camp the Wye from Hay to Hereford, Loch Affric and Loch Shiel. It comfortably carried all we needed. Its an old canoe (don't know how old) with usual scrapes etc but no serious damage and nothing to affect performance.
We took it on the Wye once, all our other paddles have been on open water. See photos. The description below is in the Canoe Reviews section of Songofthepaddle.co.uk for the Venture Traveller (Pyranha began making canoes under the Venture name in 2004, so I assume ours is older than that) NOTE: Ours seems to be the same except instead of wood my seats are plastic and the yoke and thwart are metal tubing. Makers Spec Length: 16’1” 491cmWidth: 35” 89cmWeight: 60lbs 27kgDepth: ? Capacity: 882lbs 400kgMakers Write Up The Traveller is a superb lightweight canoe that is at home in a variety of conditions whether you are an enthusiastic beginner or a family looking for fun.The flat hull provides good all round stability with moderate rocker for a good balance between straight line speed and turning ability.
The bow is slightly flared and there is enough freeboard (depth) for a dry ride. It is ideal for lakes, flat to moderate rivers, canals, etc. And it's light weight means it is easy to manage off the water too.The Traveller is supplied standard with 2 wood and web seats, wood thwart and wood carrying yoke. The end decks incorporate carrying handles and the tough PU gunwales give the boat rigidity. There are 2 sizes available in the Traveller. The 15 foot version is ideal for a combination of solo and tandem paddling while the 16 foot version is also manageable as a solo but can also easily take a second or third paddler in comfort.Light weightFreeboard depth for a dry rideFlat hull for increase in stability This canoe is priced to let a newbie get started with a lightweight canoe that is so much easier to handle. We live in North Yorkshire (HG3).
