Solway Dory Outrigger / Pontoon / Float For Sailing Canoe Or Open Canadian Canoe

You are bidding on a Solway Dory outrigger that consists of an ash beam, a GRP/marine plywood float, wingnuts, washers and bolts for attachment. This outrigger was made by Solway Dory and was used on my family’s Old Town Discovery 158 Canadian canoe. The ash beam is 242cm (8 feet) long and fits to the canoe gunwale with two bolts and wingnuts (See photographs). The GRP float is 127cm (4feet) long, 19cm wide and 23cm deep. Beam and float are connected by stainless steel bolts and wingnuts and are easily separated for storage or transport in or on your car.

We have used it to make the canoe more stable when out on the sea or lake with the family. It makes the canoe a sturdy platform for fishing and can be used to stabilise a canoe fitted with a sail. In use the outrigger does not seem to affect canoe performance but it does increase the confidence of the more timid paddler. Fitting the outrigger to your canoe will only need you to make two small (6mm) holes in the gunwale, using the holes in the beam as a guide.
