Up for auction here is a beautiful vintage 1950's shovel nose plywood hydroplane racer in very good sturdy condition. This hydroplane was purchased out of an estate with 1950's photos of the original owner which I will add when I get home. Very good solid condition with the exception of two very thin plywood top cockpit curtain panels that have delaminated. I think they can be replaced fairly easily. It was a poor design that allowed water to enter from the top.
They should be replaced with solid wood boards. The rest of the boat is very solid with original paint. This is a bit of a project because it has no steering hardware or motor included. The Suzuki that is on there is a 9.9, is not included and is way too slow. It only got up to about 24 mph.
This needs a hydroplane racer motor like a Mercury Super 10 short shaft or other such racer. The steering wheel, throttle grip and even the front nose handle is marked "WC" Wilcox Crittenden. This hydroplane has excellent bones and is very well made. It measures 9 ft long x 66" wide. Beautiful style and design!
Right from 1950! The trailer is absolutely perfect for it. It is a KARAVAN jetski trailer so it sits nicely on the bunks with a strap hook at the front and places to tie to at the back. Tows behind my car like it is not even there. I don't have paperwork for the trailer but I have a bill of sale from the owner.
I just use the plate from my other trailer. This trailer is in excellent condition with 12" tires, is galvanized and is worth $300 all day long. Here is a wonderful project hydroplane for a future vintage hydroplane racer or lake rocketman. Email me any questions you may have. Local pick up in Farmington, CT or I can deliver this to you for a fee based on your CT, MA or NY location!
Thank you! -Andrew
