17'4" Old Town Discovery 174 Canoe With Paddle

Hard to find Old Town Discovery 174. The longest Discovery made currently is the 16, from what I've found. The closest currently made Old Town to this model is the Penobscot 174. The difference is the Penobscot has wooden and mesh woven seats. I think the molded seats in the Discovery are more sturdy and they are metal reinforced.

These are usually pricey and high quality canoes. I think my father purchased this one for around $1800 when they were new (its 18 years old - I'm guessing). The Penobscot 174 is listed on Cabelas for $1299 currently It is fiberglass and wood with metal supported plastic moulded seats and wooden cross supports, one of which is moulded to be a shoulder yolk for carrying. It is very sturdy and strong. I weight over 400 pounds and I'm sitting in it in the photos with no problems.

At that weight you have to sit on the floor in a canoe or it will tip. It has a 1500 lb capacity- if properly dispersed. It comes with the paddle as seen in the picture. This is a used canoe, so the wood cross beams could use a fresh coat of tongue oil and the hull has very minor rubs where it went over tree branches and such. However it is a solid big canoe in great condition for it's age as it was rarely used.
