This canoe just needs a paint job. It does not need to be restored. Painting an Old Town canoe is simple, fun and very affordable (go on-line for instructions), and allows for the new owner to add their own choice of paints and colors as well as feel the great satisfaction and love of owning and maintaining a traditional antique wood canvas canoe. This canoe is in very good used condition with the following issues. One of the seats needs re-caning (very simple) One of the mahogany thwarts had been broken but very well re-glued.
As described in the catalogue: “this canoe is for the use of guides and sportsmen. Has broad lines through its entire length to give steadiness and carrying capacity and a flat floor far into the ends to make it float light and go easily over the shallow places. The ends are low to lessen wind resistance- a feature which experienced hunters, and sportsmen regard as very essential. A fast steady canoe that is never cranky.”Folks, this canoe was made to have fun with and use. It is an ideal lake fishing canoe.
