Old Town Charles River Canoe Excellent Condition with Motor and Battery. Please ignore the decking and back garden in the photos - it's about to be replaced and re-done, and it's not where the canoe has been stored until recently. The canoe was stored at my parents house and under cover. I purchased the canoe for my son and I when he was young from Nichol End Marine on Derwent Water in the Lakes in September 2011. The canoe has been used exclusively on Derwent Water, Ullswater, Windermere and a couple of the other lakes, it's never been down river or knocked about etc.
The wheels/stand, motor and battery were bought from new as my son was young and couldn't help me carry it, and the motor allowed us to go further than we would have usually been able to, again because he was very young and couldn't paddle for long. Now that he can paddle by himself we're selling the canoe to buy two kayaks. The canoe has the usual scratches on the bottom which just comes from use and is what happens to them over the years, none of them are deep and I'm happy to take more pictures if you would like to see more. There is an annoying scratch where it was recently placed against the wall, but it's only rubbed against the old bricks and isn't deep. As can be seen from the photos the inside of the canoe and the seats are in excellent condition.
I've never had any problems with it or had to make any repairs. The motor is a Bison 40lbs thrust and both the motor and battery are in excellent condition. The motor clamps onto the rear of the canoe and the battery tucks in at the end of the canoe. The motor hinges to lie horizontally out of the water across the canoe when it's not needed. It's really simple to attach and use, and it's been perfect for when we've wanted to travel further to see different places etc.
We've never got close to running the battery flat during a weekend's canoeing. I don't remember how much it all cost at the time, but I believe the motor is min £100 on classifieds board now, and the battery around £50. The Bits4Boards canoe wheels / stand is excellent and makes transporting the canoe much easier. The wheels / tyres are pneumatic. Also comes with a bungie style strap to fix to the canoe (not in pics).
The wheels cost £50 on classifieds board. I would consider selling the canoe separately if the motor etc wasn't required. Much loved and well looked after and has many more years left in it. I don't remember how much the canoe cost, but I did a quick internet search and I don't think you can buy this model new anymore, but I do remember them being very highly recommended and highly rated. Only selling because my son is now older and wants his own kayak.
