A rare opportunity to own the Scout version of this classic canoe. The Scout has a better shaped hull than the standard Discovery 158, and offers improved performance on the water. The Scout hull has a more rounded cross section compared to the flat bottomed standard 158. It comes with lacing eyelets at the bow and stern, although I have removed the laces that you see in the images. I can provide some replacement paracord if required.
There are carrying loops fitted to bow and stern too. A huge bonus is the fully fitted centre saddle which is perfect for white water solo runs, or it can be used as a third seat in normal use. The saddle also offers handy storage and extra floatation if needed. The canoe can also be reconfigured to just a centre yolk by removing the saddle and the extra thwart. A third webbing seat can also be fitted.
The Polylink hull is in good condition, never abused and with just the usual marks from beaching and shallows. There are no major dents, cracks, splits or holes. If you don't already know, Polylink hulls comprise of an inner and outer hull sandwiching a dense foam. This makes for a stable, buoyant and forgiving set up that will take a lot more punishment than many hulls. It also heels well if you prefer that style of paddling.
The two traditional webbing seats are in good condition, and give decent comfort during extended use. They are easily removed if the space is required for extra floatation or storage during solo runs or trips etc. Possible questions and answers. Why are you selling this great canoe? I find myself paddling solo more often, and have down sized my ride.
I now also own a quirky 13' Selway Fisher Waterman that has far less curb appeal (bank appeal!), but I like quirky. Is it easy to car top? I manage to lift it onto a 4x4 single handed, but two pairs of hands are always better! Is it stable enough for family use, I.e. Children on board?
Absolutely, I would never put my family at risk of an unwanted swim. This canoe is stable on all normal water. It is surprisingly known to be stable for its size on white water too, although I'm a coward and have never taken it on serious white water. A very rare class 2 and only when a blue moon rises. I am fortunate enough to have never capsized this canoe, but I cannot guarantee you won't if you take it out in adverse conditions or use it improperly!
Do you have to be an expert paddler to use this canoe? Erm . . . Nope, I'm far from any form of expert! I paddle for fun, have been on camping trips, done canals, flat rivers and lakes.
My limited knowledge is gained from my own experiences, good old Google, YouTube and some good forums. Can you deliver? Possibly if within a reasonable distance from Chester. Within a 70 mile radius and mileage according to Google Maps quickest route. Cost £1 per mile one way, payable as Paypal transfer and non- refundable.
Any other questions are very welcome, as is viewing by prior arrangement. If you require specific images, I am happy to oblige. Please allow me some time to do any of the above as I work strange shifts. Thank you for taking the time to view and read my listing. The canoe will be advertised through other media, so I reserve the right to withdraw it from sale on here.
