Old Town Discovery 164 Canoe

With reluctance I have decided to sell my Old Town 164 Discovery Canoe. 164 relates to its length which is16’ 4”. It weighs 34 kg. I generally move this by myself by carrying on my shoulders, yoke is fitted for this purpose. Obviously easier if there are two people involved!

It has two seats and a lot of centre space for kit if you want to go on a weekend or even week long journey. I am selling as a job lot including two Grey Owl ash beaver tail paddles, 1 emergency paddle, 2 adult buoyancy aids, 1 young person buoyancy aid, small child buoyancy aid (up to 25 kg) and a big blue watertight container - I keep all my spare clothes, sleeping bag and camera in this when on a trip. Also included are two buoyancy wedges which keep the boat afloat in the unlikely event of a capsize or complete drenching in choppy water. Both wedges have seen better days, are sun bleached and one leaks air a bit but ok for the job. A water baler and two seat cushions.Apart from a means of transportation with roof bars or a trailer, this is all you need to go out on the water.

I have 4 roof bar canoe stops (L shapes) that will be provided if you have the right roof bars. Mine are Thule square bars.The canoe has Kevlar skid plates on the bow and stern to reinforce and protect the keel in these areas. I have recently replaced the ash thwart with an Old Town supplied replacement as it was damaged. The hull has some general wear and tear scratches but nothing untoward. It is fully watertight.

I have had the canoe for 14 years, the last 7 it has lived in the garden, prior to that in a garage, the person I bought it from also kept it in a garage.This is a lovely boat, superb for load lugging adventures, great for couples, fun for a family! Any questions, don’t hesitate in contacting me.
