Old Town Ojibway Canadian Open Canoe 3-seat.Location is St Ives Cambridgeshire We have owned this from new (September 2005), and it has spent most of its life indoors, with summer use over many years on French rivers and coastal waters. This is a very tough and capable canoe, stable and durable. There are some scratches and scrapes as you would expect, but nothing affecting the integrity of the hull. See photos 5, 6, 8 and 9 in particular. The Ojibway is an all-plastic hull of 3-layer Polylink construction, meaning not only is it strong, but it has its buoyancy built-in. You do not need extra buoyancy bags.
It can carry half a ton! The hull is based on the Old Town Discovery 158 design, though there is no woodwork to maintain here.Comfortable with 3 adults, and 2 adults + 2 children. Also used for towing children (see photo 2, not recommended when waves are bigger). I've had a lot of fun in it as a solo paddler too (though you need two adults to get it on and off a car!). You will find a number of reviews on the Ojibway, mostly describing how tough and stable it is.
I had spent quite a lot of time in a large Coleman, and two features of the Ojibway mark it out: first, no more skinned knuckles on the gunwales, because of the nice tumblehome on the Ojibway, second, the bottom doesn't flex up, so the steering runs straight, unlike the Coleman, where the bow and stern were capable of going in different directions! Two paddles are included (138cm), suitable for most adults. See photo 7.
