Old Town Penobscot 16' Canoe . Condition is Used. Hi, welcome to this auction. This Penobscot is a really lovely canoe -- it glides through the water effortlessly, but is also stable, with lots of room inside, so you can take camping gear. We have owned this canoe for 16 years, and used it once or twice each summer -- except the past two summers, when it has not been used at all (I have had two knees replaced, and that takes a while!).
This canoe is much nicer than the cheap metal ones that are generally for hire. I believe that a new one in the UK sells for around £1200 - £1300. It has gone down bits of the Wye, the Severn, and the Thames, the Norfolk Broads and the Waverley in Suffolk, and handled each outing with grace and ease. Canoeing gives you a whole new (quiet) perspective on river life -- very relaxing. From the photos you will see the scuffs and mild dents, but it is incredibly hard-wearing, and should easily go on for at least another 16 years.
We have always stored it under cover, out of the sunlight. Also, note that the canoe has three seats, which not that many do. A few years back I renewed the webbing on the front and rear seats. We're selling this canoe now because I have realised it is getting more difficult for me to lift it and carry it -- not the canoe's fault...just my old age. Included in this sale are the wheels (which makes it easier to move around) and also four bouancy aids.
However, I would recommend that you stick to two adults and one youngster in the canoe -- any more and it feels overloaded. Also included are a couple of new ropes for docking. I am not including paddles in this listing, as you need to get ones that 'fit' your height. They're easy to buy online. You will need to collect this canoe -- which means having a roof rack and a couple of straps for securing it.
