Seating: Triple
Boat Type: Canoe
This is a ‘Buy-it-Now’ sale with a ‘Best Offer’ option. COLLECTION ONLY, please. You are viewing our Old Town ‘Sportsman’ Canadian canoe and paddles. (This was superseded by the Old Town 'Rogue River 154 SS). It is approximately 15.5 feet long by 44” across the beam and weighs about 120 pounds or 54kg.
It will take 2 people and a LOT of camping/fishing kit or 3 people and day bags, etc. This is a BIG canoe. Designed for using an outboard motor up to 4hp. We have used it with a Susuki 2.5hp four stroke engine (not included in the sale) and it pushes it along easily at 6-7 knots on about half throttle (on calm water). A silent electric motor/outboard would be a great option on this.
The centre seat has a rod holder, drinks holders, a waterproof screw top compartment for valuables and a semi-insulated compartment for food, etc. I’ve added ‘P’ clips along the gunnels in the stem to lash a floatation bag to (not included) and plastic lashing ‘eyes’ along the rest of the gunnels for rope or netting to secure camping kit, etc. This is an ideal platform for camping, exploring, bird watching and, fishing. We have traveled hundreds of miles on rivers, lakes and the ocean (on calm days) all over Scandinavia, the USA and Canada plus drifting down the River’s Severn and Wye in the UK. It is a very stable craft.
This has had a lot of use but has plenty more life left in it. The two little moulded plastic ‘skegs’ at the stern began to wear through (the were hollow ‘U’ sections) from launching and recovery on concrete ramps, rocks, etc. I filled the channel with Sikaflex and added a pair of aluminium angle strips to act as wear bars. I have also replaced the varnished softwood transom boards inside and out with polypropylene sheet to beef-up the stern and reduce maintenance. Onto this I have added a pair of flip-down dinghy wheels.
They work great and you can launch and recover the canoe with them down whilst still using the motor. They flip up easily and don't interfere with the movement of the outboard. You can walk the canoe along a road or hard surface with ease to launch it. Before I added these it involved carrying the canoe between us, unladen and then several trip to get motor, fuel, etc. This is a two person lift to get it onto a car roof rack.
We are only selling as we have upgraded to a small boat. Buy collects only, please, from WR144NP. Thanks for looking. Please read the small print before you send me a message, it may answer your questions. Small Print: Do not bid if you do not intend to buy.
Items are offered for sale honestly and if there are known faults I will point them out. If an item arrives with the buyer and is not as described or has become broken in transit I will offer a refund. If there is a buy-it-now option it will say so in the listing. Please do not ask. I only sell stuff I no longer need or, on occasion, items I’ve bought and then realised are not suitable and I am not able to return them.
In other words, I don’t buy to sell. Cash-on-collection will only be acceptable if I mention it in the listing. Big and/or bulky items are likely to say ‘Buyer collects’. Palletisation at buyer’s cost agreed BEFORE you bid/buy. Postage and Packing: I mostly charge the expected rate for Royal Mail or various courier companies.
If the item is awkward to pack, large or fragile, I will add some to cover the time and materials to ensure your item reaches you in the same condition it left me. I recycle or reuse packaging, cardboard, bubble wrap and news paper as much as possible. I do not and will not ship overseas, even using the classifieds board Global Shipping Program or Royal Mail. If you bid/buy knowing this I may cancel the order as no amount of care can seemingly withstand the brutal handling packages seem to get when sent overseas. Sorry. It’s just not worth the trouble.
Any sensible questions, please ask.
