Vintage Old Town Canoe RARE Overspray gelcoat slag earrings/pendants from Maine, Unique, Museum quality! This unique pair of “Fordite” earrings was made by a friend (now deceased) who lived in Maine decades ago. His neighbor worked for Old Town Canoe and had a chunk of the gelcoat paint overspray- originally was from the wall of the Old Town company spray booth where they did the fiberglass, and would have to break the overspray buildup off from time to time. So neat! Our friend got it from the neighbor and had it for years (c1960s-70s?) and made various unique things out of it, most of which I am keeping.
He made these earrings for me, but it’s just honestly not something I wear. Earring set weights a total of ~ 3.36 grams. Silver ear wires could use polishing if you wish. Or, you could even make 2 pendants out of them and put on neckchain. What is remarkable is the delicate lines of color (see with scale) which in some cases are less than 1 mm thick.
I believe the thicker layers might have been where they either used more of the gelcoat or maybe did several canoes of the same color. I thought this should maybe be in a canoe museum like the one in Peterborough Canada (they didn’t have any canoe overspray examples). A great collectible one-of a kind, unique piece if you love Old Town Canoes. You might see all kinds examples of fordite, but few with this kind of provenance, history. You’ll recognize the colors of the canoes.
No interest, no problem, will just hang onto it… Yes, this might seem like a lot for such small pieces, but hey, it's like a pair of designer earrings that you'd have a tough time buying anywhere else! Perfect artisan handmade gift for someone that has just about everything??!
