Modified Item: No
I purchased this many years ago and it has been a prized part of my man-cave. Sadly, it is time to start moving some treasured items so others can enjoy them. I contacted Old Town and was told that these were made for a long time in the mid-1900s but were only in catalogs in the 1960s and possibly 70s. I was told it was listed in the catalog as "Cross Miniature Paddles with Canoe." Some important notes about the writing on this one: The words, "The SHANTY" are hand painted and brush strokes can be seen with magnification. All the other wording on the sign is with plastic stick-on letters and numbers, which makes it impossible to tell when they were placed or the significance of the June 4, 1947 date.
The sign is 19 1/2" wide (the length of the canoe) and about 20 1/2" high. It is solid but there are some minor scuffs and bumps to the finish. If anyone knows more about the history of these signs I would love to know. Naturally, I will happy to answer questions. NOTE: THIS WILL BE A BIG BOX, WHICH MEANS POSTAGE - ESPECIALLY WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI - WILL BE HIGH.
