Boat Type: Canoe
Extremely Rare, Old Town Charles River Canoe Royalex was discontinued in 2013 as it was not cost affective, it is extremely tough and light weight this 17ft boat weighs less than 6st. Which you can definitely notice when portaging for any distance. I have owned the boat nearly 15 years, also stored in my garage and taken out for 2-3 canoe camps per year. This boat although it has a few age related marks has not been bashed by rapids https://paddlingmag.com/stories/news-events/royalex-canoe-material-is-dead/? Amp The Old Town Charles River 17 was the epitome of traditional Open Canoe design.
The original design dates back over 100 years and Old Town modernised it and improved the build quality for today's high standards but kept the traditional look that makes Open Canoeing so appealing. If you look past the fantastic traditional looks of the Old Town Charles River 17 you have a seriously good open boat in terms of on-water performance. The Charles River 17 was slightly narrower than the old Camper with a more flared hull shape which cut through the water quicker and with less effort for distance canoeing. The Tumblehome design means that the width at the gunwales is narrower than at the waterline which not only looks great, but also made for an easier paddling position without compromising on stability. Please view before bidding Comes with extra old town seat, paddles, helmets and buoyancy aids I haven’t seen one of these for sale for over five years, they are becoming extremely rare and sort after boats
