Vintage 18' Old Town Wooden Canoe

Vintage 18' Old Town Cedar Strip Guide Canoe. Records from Old Town, which I have, show this canoe, serial number 148657 18, was shipped from the factory to Memphis, TN, in 1948. I purchased the canoe in Knoxville 1975 and replaced the canvas, decks, keel strip and cane seats and stripped and refinished the interior varnish. Original color was red. Since then we have used the canoe sparingly and stored it inside with the exception of one winter in California when condensation on the clincher nails resulted in discoloration of the adjacent varnish resulting in the pock marks on the ribs.

Portions of the midship inner gunwales were replaced due to damage incurred from an unsuccessful theft attempt. Finally numerous cracked ribs occurred from a fall off horses during storage. These cracks were stabilized by localized patches of fiberglass tape and epoxy.We have enjoyed exquisite paddling characteristics and load carrying capacity of this canoe in Tennessee, Minnesota and California for 46 years but advancing years have taken a toll on our wanderlust. The canoe comes with 2 paddles 68" and 63", an optional carrying yoke and outboard motor bracket all from Old Town. An electric trolling motor can be purchased separately.
