This canoe is a hand built 16 Ft. Peterborough Cedar Strip Canoe built from Ted Moore's original edition of CanoeCraft in 2005-2006. The plans were lofted from the Offset tables in Ted's book and station frames mounted on a 15 foot strongback. The cedar strips were glued and positioned on the hull mold frame creating the hull. The hull was then covered with three layers of 6 oz.
Fiberglass cloth and several coats of West System 105/207 Epoxy. Two layers on the outer surface and a single layer on the inside. All the seat frames, gunnels, thwarts and center thwart is made from American White Ash and has minimum of two coats of epoxt prior to assembly. The forward and aft decks are made from 5/4 African Mahogany with Basswood inserts. The bow insert has a handcarved Loon and the Stern deck a Brown Trout.
The center thwart is a hand carved portage yoke. The seat inserts are Rawhide leather weaved in the traditional Canadian Snow Shoe pattern. The finished hull has several coats of Epifanes High Gloss Marine Varnish. There are a miniimum of five on the interior and 9-10 on the exterior of the hull. The hull has been re-varnished and a keel was added to the bottom to improve tracking in 2005.
After the addition of the keel and varnish the hull was buffed with 200 grit polishing compound to make it more efficient in the water. Tha canoe has been stored indoors in a polyester canoe cover, not being exposed to the elements and sun. It has been used several times in rivers and lakes and is in "like New" condition.
