Canadian Style Cedar Wood Strip Canoe, Hand Crafted. Approx 16ft Wth 34"beam

A glorious, river-ready, virgin canoe, hand-built using modern techniques yet retaining its traditional Canadian-Indian wood strip heritage. The sleek, glossy lines are made for fast fun. The whole idea started in 2015, with the first strips steam-bent and the first glass-fibre bonding coats applied. Crafted from the finest Western Red Cedar and Douglas fir, her Ash gunwales and Iroko thwart and seat frames are complemented by brass stem bands. Hand-webbed with paracord, the comfortable seats also mimick the traditional weaving pattern of cane, but are much more durable.

Living by the Thames, the idea of paddling alongside slipper launches appealed massively....Then, just as I finished the hull construction,, we moved to North Devon, famed for it's wild surf, so this beautiful canoe is now about as much use to us as a chocolate kettle! It is therefore with much regret that Tayanita (Native American..look it up :-) ) is offered for sale, ready to make her maiden voyages in more appropriate waters. More info on the technical bits: 4 coats of epoxy (On top of the bonding coat) on both exterior and interior layup, Finished with 6 spray coats of the legendary Le Tonkinois varnish and a final coat of Carnauba wax, the outer hull is about as glossy as you can get, while Interior has been finished in satin for better grip. Please note: The is a hand-crafted boat built using traditional craftsman ship skills and traditional materials. Minor irregularities are part of the inherent beauty of this process, it is not a stamped-out factory production but one created with love and care.
