Home-Made Wooden Canoe

Home-made wooden canoe. Condition is New. We have been building wooden canoes since 1993 and have run canoe building holidays here since 1998. This time we are offering people the chance to buy a ready made example of our popular Birchcanoes Lakota. This canoe has three seats (thwarts) but is equally happy being paddled solo.

The design is stable on the water and a delight to paddle. You will have the option of trying the canoe on the river here, and will be welcome to cancel your purchase if you are not completely delighted. Dimensions : the canoe is 15'5" long, 34" in the beam, and weighs 28kg. It is easily lifted onto your shoulders (I will show you how) and straightforward to transport on a normal car roof rack or roof bars. If you don't have any means to transport the canoe I can arrange to deliver (at cost of £1/mile door to door.. 50p per mile for the round trip.) We have a lively Facebook page called Birchcanoes which you are welcome to visit and contribute to.

It has hundreds of photos of how these canoes are built. If this particular canoe sells before you manage to buy it don't worry as I am able to make and deliver up to 4 more before Christmas. Alternatively you may wish to consider attending one of our canoe building holidays in 2020. The Lakota canoe is made from Lloyd's approved marine ply, using Lloyd's approved resin and glassfibre tape. It has full length Ash hardwood gunwales, and all the screws are marine stainless.

In this canoe the deck pieces are made from laminated Ash and makore, something we've not done before but we think you will love. The thwarts are made from spruce. Note: the canoe for sale here has not yet been launched ( owing to us not having suitable river conditions or weather on the days since the canoe was built).
