MY classifieds board STORE IS CLOSED, BUT THIS BOAT IS AVAILABLE DURING THAT PERIOD. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF INTERESTED. I'm listing this very special boat for my son as I am an experienced seller on classifieds board, have the appropriate selling limits and I've had the pleasure to see this fine boat being built. My son is a professional boat builder, having graduated from the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) in Newport, Rhode Island. This was a special project at the school.
At the Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival, it won both First Place for Traditional Construction, as well as the Joe Liener Award, given to those projects which specially show adherence to traditional boatbuilding skills. Additionally, this wonderful Rushton boat was installed as an exhibit at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum where James worked and, while doing so, he was available to provide visitors with verbal history of this classic boat. This Henry Rushton "Florida" Model rowboat was thoroughly researched; and it is likely the ONLY one to have been built in modern times with the designers handwritten design dimensions (from his long-lost book appropriately named 'Book of Knowledge", available from the Adirondack Museum). Henry Rushton was a pioneer of lightweight canoe building in the late 19th century. His boats were famously used by writer George Washington Sears to adventure all around the states.
History: John Henry Rushton, of Canton, N.Y., was considered to be one of the premier canoe makers in the United States during the late 1800s. There was a demand for canoes and guide boats at the time.Rushton answered that demand, building boats from locally sourced materials at his shop, situated between the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack Mountains. The boats primarily were used for recreation and transportation. This is a cherished project, which he has stored for two years because he didn't want to let it go. It was on the water a handful of times. This boat is available for pickup in Cambridge, Maryland, and it can be delivered free of charge within a 200 miles radius. Other delivery may be possible, but please contact me before purchase. James wrote a full building blog highlighting the whole research and building process.
