Vintage 27" Wooden Miniature 2 Seat Canoe and 2 Paddles with Fishing Creel and Stand. This canoe was issued by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 1970's (if I remember correctly). Any items issued at the museum are made in "Limited Editions" and issued only once. It is a replica of a display of vintage canoes at the museum, at that time. We visited the museum, toured the display and purchased the canoe there. The canoe was made true to the real one on display.... a perfect replica....made exactly like the vintage canoe on display. Over time I have seen these canoes sold on classifieds board.... they are not a "salesman sample" (which would imply they were carried by sales people who represented the company that made canoes).
I am not trying to down-play their rarity or value... just being honest about their history. The miniature fishing creel was added to my "cabin home decor" years later. The canoe measures 27-1/4" long x 4-3/4" wide (in the middle). Each (correctly made) paddle is 8" long. The fishing creel measures 3" x 2" x 1-3/4". There are 3 fish hanging on to the creel. The canoe has a forest-green / hunter-green painted bottom and a lacquered interior. The wooden stand is original to the canoe.... designed so you can tip the canoe - displaying the interior or flat like a canoe would be in the water.
The paddles are also original to the canoe.CONDITION: The canoe is complete with its 2 paddles and a terrific mini creel. The only issue is the bottom of the canoe has some separations between a few of the slats that make up the bottom of the hull where the wood has shrunk or the glue holding it together has deteriorated. On display, no one can see this area. Please read the narrative below and view all of the photos. There are no other issues.
